(Title) Edgar Allen Poe wrote his stories during the Romantic Literary movement. This movement began with the book published by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe titled The Sorrows of Young Werther. Authors during this time period (1770-1860) included Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and henry Longfellow. Yet one author who was the most prominent at this time was Edgar Allen Poe. Poes writing style demonstrated the intimacy of the human mind, the fears that haunt human being, and the work of literary genius. Poes work The Tell-Tale Heart showed each one of the characteristics. Edgar Poe was born on January 19, 1809 to Elizabeth Hopkins and David Poe. A year after his birth, his mother died of terbium, and his father weak the family a year after that. The Allan family, consisting of John and Frances Allan, took up Poe as their foster son. In 1815, Poe traveled with the Allans to England, where he attended grammar schoolhouse in Chelsea. He moved back to Richmond, V irginia in 1820 where he attended the University of Virginia (Hutchisson 16). Poes foster father refused to pay the tuition because Poe took up a bad habit of gambling. Soon, in grievous debt and unable to support himself, Poe had to drop out of the University of Virginia and enlist himself in the army.

He enlisted under the name Edgar Perry, and served in the army for deuce years. In 1828, his foster mother had become seriously ill, and died in 1829 due to tebibyte (Silverman 167). The last time he would kick downstairs against his foster father was at his foster mothers funeral. Because his foster father would not support him, Poe moved to urinate with his aunt, Maria Clemm, and his cousin, Virginia Clemm. Poe! s genetic brother, Henry, was living with the Clemms, but died of tuberculosis just a few months after Poe moved in.
